Eastern Airlines, also colloquially known as Eastern, was a major American airline from 1926 to 1991. Eastern was one of the Big Four domestic airlines that dominated this market for decades afterward. Fresh off a new identity inspired by their rich and iconic history, Eastern relaunched as an “Explorer” brand focusing on underserved markets with only direct, non-stop flights with very liberal bag policies.

Unique development challenges involved ticket lookup integration using Prismic, Bilingual Functionality, Important COVID19 alerts and updates, and various animations to create a cohesive, polished experience.

The rebrand has been in Adweek, “Eastern Airlines Is Back (Again) With a New Strategy and Rebrand.”

Open Path

Open Path Psychotherapy Collective is a non-profit nationwide network of mental health professionals dedicated to providing in-office and online mental health care—at a steeply reduced rate—to individuals, couples, children, and families in need.

My role with Open Path spanned both design and development, although switched wholly to code as the brand grew.

Unique design challenges required balancing the navigation between providers and visitors, discovering an inclusive art direction, and creating a flow for the registration form that wouldn't feel overwhelming.

Unique development challenges included using Google Maps API to convert addresses to geolocation coordinates, utilizing the haversine formula to search the provider database based on geolocation, and building custom coursework with quiz scoring functionality.

The site has been on NPR, Forbes, NY Times, and many other publications.

Springfield Water & Sewer

The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission provides retail water and wastewater utility throughout the Hampden County of Massachusetts. The Commission owns and operates the drinking water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater drainage systems throughout the Pioneer Valley which utilize 1,015 miles (1,633 km) of water main and 1,435 miles (2,309 km) of sewer pipe and storm drain.

Unique design challenges involved finding balance for the wide use-case of the site's visitor types. Additionally, finding a creative direction that projected a water-theme, and addressed accessibility for a full spectrum of visitors.

Unique development challenge involved integrating an internal warning system that would render important information, such as water main breaks, onto Google Maps.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

MIT Student Financial Services provides financial aid and customer service. The office is committed to finding affordable solutions for every family so their students can join the MIT community and make the most of their education.

Unique development challenges included using Timber — a previously built custom implementation of WordPress that uses the language Twig. Additionally, javascript integration required a complex waterfall solution, non-standard web formatting requests for form fields, and a large algorithm that calculates dozens of variables.

Center For International Studies Abroad

Center for International Studies Abroad provides innovative education programs that broaden academic perspectives, promote global awareness, and encourage personal development while laying the foundation for participants to become engaged world citizens.

My role with CI Study Abroad spanned both design and development, although solely changed to design as the brand grew.

Unique design challenges included creating engaging location guides, an encompassing design system for all interactive brand material, and a feature-packed search to find the perfect program.

Unique development challenges included a search that could filter and sort hundreds of programs and courses by dozens of taxonomies. Additional challenges were integrating a coursework microsite with grades and building a template builder for editors to write interactive guide books for dozens of locations.

CI Study Abroad has won multiple innovation awards and has been in many travel publications.

A trusted advisor to hundreds of educational institutions in New England with a priority to develop solutions that will best serve students, instructors, and local communities.

Unique design challenges involved finding balance for the wide use-case of the site's visitor types. Additional challenges were discovering a layout for their online store and carrying existing print direction into the site theme.

Unique development challenges involved wrestling existing woocommerce code, creating an editor interface that combined Gutenburg with ACF for a visual and module page builder, and translating previous content systems into a WordPress environment.

Skittles

Two Hundred and eight million years ago, from the ocean below, a colorful force with the strength of a thousand rainbows pierced the surface, cracked Pangea’s supercontinent, and altered the atmospheric levels of fruity juiciness on planet Earth forever.

This project started as a Tumblr microsite, although a few months after launching, Skittles would be so happy with the Tumblr site they would make it their official website. Skittles has since archived their Tumblr presence, although the content remains equally colorful and timeless as the brand.

Unique design challenges involved finding creative approaches to translate the colorful voice of the brand across all elements.

Unique development challenges involved working with the Tumblr team to utilize a hidden API. This Tumblr API would allow us to output content as the unique design intended.
